I spent an inspiring day at the LSEG (London Stock Exchange Group) on AIM and Growth Company forum, connecting with innovative leaders and innovative growth companies. Special thanks to Michal Freeman-Shor for the invitation!
Julia Hoggett (Chief Executive Officer at London Stock Exchange) shared some remarkable statistics: In 2024, London led in transactions across Europe, surpassing the next three largest European exchanges combined, with a 31% increase in capital raised year-over-year.
𝙆𝙚𝙮 𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙨 𝙤𝙣 𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙩𝙝 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙪𝙢:
💡 The market is open and actively seeking quality businesses - investors are eager to engage early and support the right management teams.
💡 Joining the public market is not just about accessing growth capital but about laying the groundwork for long-term strategy, governance, and operational excellence.
💡 Listing provides companies with the ability to operate at their own pace while retaining control over their growth journey.
💡 Enhanced ability to attract and retain talent, fostering a shared commitment to success.
💡 Early and consistent communication with investors is crucial. Investors are increasingly looking to build relationships with teams and companies ahead of the IPO process.
Particularly striking was the panel discussion with investors from fund managers Natalie Bell (Liontrust Asset Management PLC) and James Taylor (M&G Investments) and Freda Isingoma (Octopus Investments). Their message was clear:
💠 Define a clear purpose and ensure your team has the knowledge and tools to deliver consistently on your numbers.
💠 Be transparent about risks and outline realistic terms to stakeholders.
💠 Start preparations early to refine your value story and establish credibility with potential investors.
💠 Start your structural and governance review as soon as you decide to list, mainly your contracts, tax and financial accounts.
💠 Having the right board and team who truly understand the business.
💠 Ensuring robust financial controls and governance.
